As a sort of “spin off” of this whole Startup Drinks thing, we’ve created a group on Meetup.com for hackers (developers) and founders (business types) to meet and mingle and talk Startups. I’ll update this blog when we have a meeting as well, but please do checkout the Meetup group.

Marc over at NC Startup Blog has arranged another Startup Drinks event for your networking, drinking and starting-up convenience. This Startup Drinks has been combined with the Refresh The Triangle which is happening the same night, and will now be at Viget Labs offices in Durham. It all goes down June 25, 2009. Ok, just talked to the people at O’Malley’s Irish Pub and we have
their private room for a second installment of Triangle Startup Drinks. Let’s meet Tuesday, July 1, 2008, starting around 6:00-6:30′ish (PM) for more startup talk, eating, discussion, drinking, etc.

Ok, let’s kick this thing into gear and get rolling. We’ll shoot for our very first “Startup Drinks” this coming Friday. Streets at Southpoint
is a moderately central location for most of the Triangle and seems like a good compromise on location. At the first event we can talk about
what we want to do for future events…. stay strictly ad-hoc, come up with some kind of schedule, a hybrid of both, etc. as well as talk about venue.
But more importantly than a lot of navel-gazing meta-discussion will be talk about what really matters: STARTUPS! Let’s talk about how we
can start building the startup scene in this area, and get interested people together who are doing startups, or are interested in startups or whatever.
Techies, marketers, lawyers, VCs, executives, whatever, everyone is invited to come out, eat, drink and talk STARTUPS.

So what is Startup Drinks?
a) A drinking group with a startup problem.
b) A low key, unstructured group drinking (coffee, beer or spirits) event that happens in cities across the world
c) Therapy for startup junkies (you don’t have two days to go to a conference, but you do have two hours and would love to stay involved in the community)

A simple concept: startup culture in cities around the world gathers around a bar to have a pint and discuss what they are working on, what they need help with and what they can do for each other.
